Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction Co. (DHIC) has signed a deal with the government of North Jeolla Province to cooperate on the construction of a 2.4-gigawatt offshore wind farm to be completed by 2028, a 14 trillion-won project.
Under the deal, DHIC will build the offshore wind farm in seas off the coast between Gochang County and Buan County and provide and maintain wind power generators.
The local government will provide DHIC with administrative support.
DHIC also recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Korea South-East Power Company (KOEN) to cooperate on the 2GW offshore wind farm projects in Gyeongin and Jeju island, as well as on the development of megawatt-class floating offshore wind power systems and complexes.
The two firms would also engage in technology exchanges for commercialization of the 8MW large-capacity offshore wind turbine, with DHIC as the main contractor.
Last July, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy announced that the country will build a 12-gigawatt offshore power plant in its seas by 2030.
