According to the latest survey by Politico, the negotiations between the President-elect Donald Trump and Carrier Corporation that saved thousands of jobs and prevented the company’s moving out of the United States boosted Mr. Trump’s public image. While conservatives with the Republican Party and the Democrats have called the Carrier deal ‘crony capitalism’, the public says otherwise
According to the survey,
- 87 percent of the Republicans, 54 percent of the Independents, and 40 percent of the Democrats say that Carrier’s decision to keep thousands of manufacturing jobs in Indiana, gives them a more favorable view of Trump.
- Overall, 60 percent of voters say the deal gives the President elect a more favorable view. Even 32 percent of the Clinton voters agree with that, which is something that would make Mr. Trump’s camp cheerful.
The same survey also shows that a larger, 62 percent of the respondents (78 percent of Republicans, 63 percent of Independents, 46 percent of Democrats) say it is acceptable for the president and vice president to offer tax breaks or incentives to individual companies to keep jobs in the U.S., while only 20 percent were opposed to the idea.
