Donald Trump recently weighed in on Harvey Weinstein’s rape trial after it was announced that the Hollywood producer was charged with a guilty verdict on one count of rape and sexual assault.
The POTUS called Weinstein’s guilty verdict a great victory for women. While speaking with Daily Mail journalist Emily Goodin, Melania Trump’s husband also said that he’s not a big fan of Weinstein especially after the latter tried to compete against him in the presidential elections.
“He said he was going to work hard to defeat me in the election. How did the work out by the way? I’m trying to figure that out. He was a person I didn’t like. I don’t know too much about the case,” he said.
However, it is Trump’s succeeding statements that caused a stir on social media.
“I knew him a little bit. The people that like him were the Democrats. Michelle Obama loved him. Hillary Clinton loved him,” he said.
On Twitter, the POTUS faced backlash not only for suggesting that Clinton and Obama love Weinstein but also for saying that his guilty verdict was a big win for women. Trump has also been accused of sexually assaulting and harassing women, but he hasn’t been convicted for it.
“FYI, people not believing the women is how Bill Cosby, Harvey Weinstein, and Donald Trump got away with assaulting women for so long,” Twitter user @ChancesMom2018 said.
“Besides the #Presidementia of #Trump incapable of thinking about a thing but himself and his enemies the #Dems and despite the politicized returning of #Weinstein #POTUS has zero empathy for or awareness of hurting people. If Harvey was a pal, he’d be railing vs the victims and courts,” Twitter user @Brravehart09 said.
But at least one person came to Trump’s defense and said that he is no Weinstein.
“Cut it out, Bee. President Trump has always been a champion of women’s rights. The accusations were just that accusations without merit or foundation, so let’s be fair. President Trump is no Harvey Weinstein,” Twitter user @caroleeastman said.
