“Doctor Who” Update: “Fortitude”, “Iron Fist”, “Fleabag” Actors Currently In The Running To Become 13th Doctor; Will Peter Capaldi Exit The Series As A Blind Time Lord?

There are three new names that are added to the list of contenders for the role of 13th Doctor and actor Peter Capaldi’s replacement in the BBC sci-fi series “Doctor Who.”

According to Screenrant, Luke Treadaway (Fortitude) and Sacha Dhawan (Iron Fist) are reportedly in consideration for the role. Treadaway, who stars in the British sci-fi psychological thriller, is said to be an obvious candidate considering the demands of the role in “Doctor Who.” Dhawan, on the other hand, has already expressed his enthusiasm in getting considered for the role, which could be a significant one for a man of color.

On the other hand, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, a breakout star of the Amazon series “Fleabag,” is reportedly fit for the role if producers of the longest-running series decides to hire a female actress to fill in following Capaldi’s exit this year. She also got a high recommendation from former “Doctor Who” star Karen Gillan (who played companion Amy Pond to Matt Smith’s Doctor), Metro said. A source told the Mirror, “Beeb bosses love Phoebe. They thought she did an amazing job with Fleabag and is certainly one of the rising stars in TV and film. They see her as the perfect fit as a Time Lord and the first female Doctor Who.”

Meanwhile, will Capaldi’s Doctor character exit the series as a blind man? In the latest Season 10 episode, it was revealed that the Doctor gave up his oxygen to save the life of his companion, Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie). However, it was revealed that although he received treatment for his blindness and had returned to his post in the university, he was still blind.

When Nardole (Matt Lucas) asked him to look at him as he warned about the danger of leaving the vault, the Doctor replied: "I can't look at anything ever again… I'm still blind."
