“Doctor Who” Season 10, which is expected to return to BBC on April 15t, debuts a brand-new trailer showing the return of Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor, along with new companions.
CNET reports that Capaldi has a new companion in Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie), with returning characters Nardole (Matt Lucas) holding the Fourth Doctor's sonic screwdriver and Missy (Michelle Gomez). And just as reported earlier, there have been shoutouts to Capaldi’s favorite villains, the original-but-still-creepy 1960s Cybermen, including a cute robot buddy that speaks in emoji; Mars; 1814 London; a giant eyeball; and a human(?) Dalek.
"This is the gateway to everything that ever was, or can be," so begins the new trailer.
The Verge said Season 10 is Capaldi’s and long-time showrunner Steven Moffat’s last season, and will also mark the transition for the long-running science fiction franchise. BBC has been mum about the show’s future, including whether Mackie will be staying on and who the new Doctor would be. However, it didn’t stop bettors to put their money on certain actors, including Kris Marshall, who is known for his role as the Brit looking for love in America in the romantic comedy “Love Actually.” After a betting surge on Marshall’s name, curiously timed exit from his role in BBC’s “Death in Paradise” and the eventual bet suspension on his name has fans speculating that he could be the 13th Doctor.
Marshall has since responded to the rumors and told The Herald Sun that although he was “very flattered to be considered by the good public, I wouldn’t put any money on it yet.” At the time of writing, Marshall is still a heavy favorite with the bookies.
