“Destiny 2” is slated to receive its next expansion soon with a slew of new content and features for the live service game. But a recent datamine suggests that Bungie is, at least, considering introducing a premium subscription as well.

References to the potential “Destiny 2” premium subscription were found by a member of the D2 Datamines Discord server (via The Game Post). The files indicate that Bungie may have been considering a new way for players to access paid content, which could be offered starting in the upcoming “Lightfall” expansion.

Various file strings link the rumored premium subscription to “Destiny 2” Season 20, which will begin along with the release of the “Lightfall” expansion on Feb. 28, 2023. There were references to four subscription plans that players could pay for every month, three months, six months, and annually.

The datamine also found a file description reportedly related to the unannounced “Destiny 2” premium subscription. It suggests that the paid model would grant access to “Lightfall,” two new dungeons and raids, one month of premium content for Year 6, new Exotic Sparrow, Quicksilver Storm catalyst and ornament, and Rahool’s Secret Stash with premium items released throughout Year 6.

Most details about the next “Destiny 2” expansion have already been announced, but Bungie has yet to mention anything about a premium subscription. That could mean several things, including the possibility that the developer may have silently scrapped the idea.

It is worth noting, though, that the premium items and inclusions mentioned in the datamine files are already being offered as perks for buying the “Destiny 2” Lightfall + Annual Pass bundle. It also comes with Season Passes for Seasons 20, 21, 23, and 24.

In recent months, fans have complained that the seasonal playlist and activities to level up in “Destiny 2” have lacked variety. The good news is game director Joe Blackburn addressed the issue earlier this month, assuring players that Bungie has heard their comments. “The team is excited to put some more creative risk in seasonal progressions, but there will be some time before the feedback catches up with the dev cycle,” Blackburn said.
