The current online, multiplayer climate might be dominated by the likes of PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG), Destiny 2, and Overwatch, but there are also other games that are going through some huge developments. The survival shooting game DayZ, for example, is finally leaving Early Access and might be coming to Xbox One as a console exclusive.
According to the blog post announcing the development, the game is set to leave Early Access next year. The developers also assured players that the game is still in good condition and bug fixes, as well as appropriate polishing, is in the works.
“As soon as the PC BETA is headed in a way we like, we're still committed to bringing DayZ to Xbox, where we have a large community of gamers patiently (very patiently!) waiting for a truly hardcore online survival game. All of that will (and must) happen next year - meaning we're just about to start what could possibly be the most exciting year for DayZ so far. In short: DayZ will be out of Early Access next year, and we'll also finally deliver it to console players in 2018,” the post reads.
As Gamespot notes, however, it’s interesting how the announcement didn’t seem to include any mention of the game coming to PlayStation 4. As such, this could be another sign that Microsoft managed to snag another multiplayer exclusive on top of the deal that it struck for PUBG.
Once the game is finally out of Early Access, the developers promise to keep supporting the game. The game’s lead producer, Eugen Harton noted that they are treating DayZ as a platform that will receive support for as long as possible.
Then there’s the matter of potentially huge modding opportunities from content creators. This is particularly exciting for those who would like to modify their survival experience.
