“Dark” season 2’s predecessor was hailed as one of the most watched foreign contents on Netflix. That success obviously permitted the renewal of the show, however, Netflix has yet to announce an official release date.
The filming of the second installment has officially wrapped up a couple of months ago. This could mean that the wait for “Dark” season 2 will be over soon.
Series co-creator Baran bo Odar confirmed they were through with the production of “Dark” season 2 in late November 2018. He added that the filming took “92 shooting days and 48 second unit days” before implying they would immediately start the editing or the post-production phase. With that, it is safe to speculate that new episodes will start streaming within the first half of the year.
DigitalSpy suggested that Netflix might want to release “Stranger Things” season 3 first (due on July 4) before dropping “Dark” season 2. However, actor Oliver Masucci previously hinted it is the other way around.
On the 69th day of filming, Masucci shared a behind-the-scenes update through Instagram where a fan asked when “Dark” season 2 is going to premiere. Given that production was not over at the time, the release date was definitely not set in stone yet but the cast and crew most likely had a tentative schedule in mind.
Instead of ignoring the fan’s inquiry, Masucci graciously responded with, “About June 2019.” This means that if there are no major hiccups through the post-production of “Dark” season 2, Netflix might actually release it about a month before “Stranger Things” season 3.
However, other fans also raise the possibility that, for symbolic reasons, Netflix and the series creators might agree on releasing “Dark” season 2 at a much later date on Nov. 4. This date holds a significant meaning to the entire plot in the first season but many fans commented that it would be a stretch to delay season 2’s premiere only for that reason.
