“Cyberpunk 2077” players will finally learn about the game’s next update, including upcoming content and new features, this week. Developer CD Projekt Red recently announced it would host another Night City Wire livestream happening this week.
In an announcement on Twitter, CD Projekt Red said its next “Cyberpunk 2077” livestream will discuss the upcoming Netflix animated series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” ahead of its Sept. 13 premiere. But in a separate post on Instagram, the studio confirmed fans would also hear more about its plans for the game at the same event.
Senior Level Design Miles Tost and Franchise and Lore Designer Patrick Mills will appear in this week’s Night City Wire, where they will discuss the next “Cyberpunk 2077” update. CD Projekt Red also noted that the livestream would unveil plans for new weapons and features coming to the game. Fans can watch the livestream on Twitch on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 5:30 pm CEST / 11:30 am ET.
Aside from discussing the upcoming Netflix series, CD Projekt Red also announced that “Cyberpunk 2077” is getting new content and missions inspired by “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.” While the animated series, produced by Studio Trigger, is also set in Night City, it is considered a spin-off of the game as it will introduce a standalone plot. But with new missions based on the show, fans might see some crossover between the game and the series.
What the announcements did not mention was the long-anticipated “Cyberpunk 2077” expansion. CD Projekt Red originally planned to release the expansion last year. But considering the amount of work the studio had to do to fix the game following its tumultuous launch in December 2020, several post-launch updates and content were delayed.
Per CD Projekt Red’s latest update on the “Cyberpunk 2077” expansion, it is now anticipated to be released sometime in 2023. For everyone who has already walked the streets of Night City – we’re working on further DLCs as well as on a major expansion featuring a new storyline,” CD Projekt chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said last May.
Details on the new “Cyberpunk 2077” storyline for the expansion are still under wraps. But some files included in patch 1.5 reportedly provided clues on where the game’s next storyline could take place. The leak suggested that the expansion would feature the unexplored Combat Zone in Pacifica District. But it remains to be seen how much of the leaked files will be included in the final version of the expansion.
