With the first season of “Cobra Kai” offering quite the complex look into the world of karate, it was clear that the show was more than just a way to make money off of the “Karate Kid” name. In a new “Cobra Kai” Season 2 trailer, the writers are taking things to another level by essentially creating a dojo war. Is this really the legacy that Mr. Miyagi wanted to leave behind?
As Deadline reports, the previous season of the show convinced Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) that he will need to create a dojo in order to go up against his hated rivals. He will do this in “Cobra Kai” Season 2 in the most millennial way possible; via internet marketing and YouTube video demonstrations. Suffice it to say, Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) is not amused.
Fans of the original movie will already be aware that Daniel and Johnny had battled each other in the past, with Mr. Miyagi’s apprentice coming out as the victor. In honor of his master, Daniel will be naming his dojo in “Cobra Kai” Season 2 the Miyagi-do. Touching as that gesture might seem, the reason for doing so might be a bit questionable.
To start with, Mr. Miyagi did not have a dojo of his own in the traditional sense. There must have been a reason for that, especially since he did not exactly follow the conventional methods of karate. Fans might remember that he thinks breaking boards is pointless. As such, this development in “Cobra Kai” Season 2 might not be entirely to his liking if he was still alive.
In any case, “Cobra Kai” Season 2 is happening that way it will happen and fans will decide whether it is good or not. All episodes of the season will become available for viewing on April 24, so that’s a date worth noting.
