Citizen, a renowned Japanese watch company, pays homage to Ueno Station's 140th anniversary by unveiling three limited edition watches inspired by iconic trains. The Ana-Digi Temp line, known for its fusion of analog and digital displays, showcases the perfect blend of heritage and innovation.
Commemorating Ueno Station's Milestone with Train-Inspired Timepieces
One of the timepieces in this collection draws inspiration from the Tokyu Express Hitachi 485 series, which operated from Ueno to Taira Station in Fukushima. With its iconic red and cream face mirroring the train's colors, the watch features the JNR logo and the Tokyu Express Hitachi emblem engraved on the stainless steel backing, per SoraNews 24.
The second design pays tribute to the Hokutosei 24 Series Class 25 Limited Express Sleeper. Having served the Ueno-Sapporo route until its retirement in 2015, this sleeper train is renowned for its distinct dark blue color. The watch elegantly incorporates these hues onto its face, complemented by gold lines, and showcases the familiar logo used in the train's lounge car.
Presenting a design that captures the essence of luxury and sleekness, the third watch is based on the Cassiopeia E26 Limited Express Sleeper. Operating between Ueno and Sapporo, this modern train boasts an exquisite double-decker arrangement. The silver and black watch features the iconic Cassiopeia logo, with the train's five-color line emblem accentuating the bottom right side beneath the face.
Limited Availability and Ordering Details
All three watches can be acquired by special order only until January 28th. The Hitachi and Cassiopeia designs are priced at 38,000 yen (US$266.76), while the Hokutosei variant sells for 40,000 yen. Customers can conveniently place their orders through the Trainiart JE Mall online shop. Expect delivery by the end of July.
Samples of these exquisite timepieces can be experienced firsthand at various locations. Visit the museum shop of The Railway Museum in Saitama, explore the Trainiart branch at Gransta Tokyo Station, or head to the Nomono store in Ueno Station. At the same time, the ordering period is still open.
A Tradition of Limited Edition Watches
Citizen continues to captivate watch enthusiasts with its penchant for releasing limited-edition timepieces. CBR noted that following the successful Sword Art Online collection, which delighted fans of the famous light novel and anime/manga franchise, the train-inspired watches arrive as a testament to Citizen's commitment to precision and celebrating cultural milestones.
