Chick-fil-A unveils its first plant-based ‘chicken’ sandwich

Chick-fil-A introduces its newest menu addition which is a chicken sandwich without a chicken. It is a plant-based food item that features a fillet made with cauliflower.

Chick-fil-A’s vegan menu has been named “Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich” and is now being tested in some stores. It was described as a sandwich that looks very much like its popular chicken sandwich. The only difference is that the meat was replaced by fried breaded and pressure-cooked cauliflower.

As per CNN Business, the new item will be available in three cities during the testing phase and it will be in selected stores starting next week. This will be Chick-fil-A’s very first plant-based sandwich so it is expecting a good result during the trial.

On Monday, Feb. 13, customers will find and try the new Chick-fil-A Cauliflower Sandwich in stores located in Denver; Greensboro-Triad in North Carolina; and South Carolina. It will be sold starting at $6.59 and prices may vary based on the market.

The fast-food chain said that the new vegan sandwich was in development for almost four years and was made by its own in-house chefs. Stuart Tracy is the lead culinary developer of the new Chick-fil-A item and shared they initially tried mushrooms, chickpeas, and other chopped veggies to make it but picked cauliflower in the end because of its mild flavor.

"We explored every corner of the plant-based space in search of the perfect centerpiece for our plant-forward entrée,” Tracy said in a press release. “Time and time again, we kept returning to cauliflower as the base of our sandwich. After a significant amount of development, we knew we had a one-of-a-kind entrée; one that puts a delicious spin on what we are known for – great tasting food with ingredients you can trust.”

Chick-fil-A’s director of menu and packaging, Leslie Neslage, added, “Cauliflower is the hero of our new sandwich, and it was inspired by our original Chick-fil-A Chicken Sandwich. Guests told us they wanted to add more vegetables into their diets, and they wanted a plant-forward entrée that tasted uniquely Chick-fil-A, we hope it offers customers another reason to dine at Chick-fil-A.”
