Carmelo Anthony is still not getting any playtime from the Houston Rockets and it would appear that the team will not be using him on their rotation, ever. The Rockets are said to be waiting for Dec. 15 for ‘Melo’s trade restrictions to be lifted.
After that, the franchise will then try to find a team that would take in Carmelo Anthony in exchange for someone that the Rockets can use on their roster. However, no teams have yet to express a genuine interest on the 34-year-old veteran and it isn’t clear what team will ‘Melo be transferring to next.
While there are rumors out there that the Los Angeles Lakers and the Philadelphia 76ers might want to integrate Carmelo Anthony into their system, these narratives still remain a speculation at this point. Bleak as ‘Melo’s situation might be, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski is confident that the veteran will eventually find a team, 247sports reported.
“Part of the reason Houston is holding on to Carmelo Anthony right now is financial,” Wojnarowski said “Carmelo [Anthony] is going to be back in the league this year, I have no doubt. I think there will be a job for him. How significant of a role? That remains to be seen. I do think it’s gotta be the right team for him. It’s gotta be a place that makes sense.”
NBA pundit Jalen Rose said that if Carmelo Anthony does transfer to a team, it would not be with top-tier franchises out there. The sports analysts said that teams that are struggling on offense will benefit from integrating ‘Melo into their team as the forward has built his career as being one of the league’s most lethal scorers.
However, Carmelo Anthony’s game isn’t the same as it was during his heyday. There’s also the fact that the opposing teams will likely exploit ‘Melo’s lack of defense whenever he’s on the floor.
Tracey McGrady, a former leader of the Houston Rockets, even said that Carmelo Anthony should just hang his jersey. The former NBA star said that he doesn’t want ‘Melo to suffer through any more criticism from the media. And since he’ll be retiring as a Hall of Famer anyway, he should just call it quits now before further tarnishing the legacy he’s going to leave behind.
