The University of Cambridge is putting efforts in bringing blockchain education to the curriculum. The efforts are being made at the university’s Centre for Alternative Finance.
“For more than two years, I have seen ‘tremendous’ interest from companies wanting to learn more about the blockchain. I have been called in to teach executives informally about Bitcoin and other virtual currencies such as Ether, and more recently, blockchain,” Cambridge University’s Garrick Hileman said. “At the same time, many people are still trying to understand the basics of this disruptive technology,” he added.
The topics that will be covered include P2P lending, new forms of credit analytics, alternative investments, crowd-funding among others.
The Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance is an international interdisciplinary academic research institute dedicated to the study of alternative finance, which includes financial channels and instruments that emerge outside of the traditional financial system. The alternative instruments include social impact bonds and community shares used by non-profit enterprises, and alternative currencies such as Bitcoin.
Apart from Cambridge, Massachusetts Institute of Technology has an MIT fintech certificate course which is already in practice. The course builds the future of transactions and commerce and explores emerging technologies that will disrupt existing marketplaces and financial services.
“You will be exposed to the future of money; with disruptive technologies, like blockchain, leading to the rise of new currencies; explore innovation in financial markets and what’s going on with identity, privacy and security, and other areas of financial infrastructure; and you’ll hear from some of the world’s leading minds on developing new policies around these areas,” managing director of MIT connection science, Dave Shrier said.
Also, Blockchain University offers in-depth immersive program in blockchain technology with significant hands-on learning. Its courses include intro to bitcoin protocol, blockchain technologies and Dapp overview, project creation, smart contracts among others.
