Prevention is better than the cure and it is especially true when it comes to bowel cancer. A new report reveals that the feeling one may get after going to the toilet could indicate the presence of the disease.
Bowel cancer is also known as colon or rectal cancer, and in the United Kingdom, this type of cancer mainly affects the elderly or people over 60 years old. Spotting the symptoms as early as possible can ensure a successful treatment. Express reports that an indicator of bowel cancer may be the feeling that the bowel is not empty even after going to the toilet. This is the result of straining the back passage or the rectum even after opening the bowels.
This type of cancer is determined by a number of factors, from age, family history, as well as lifestyle. Obesity is linked to 11 out of 100 cases of bowel cancer, so it is advised to keep a healthy weight in order to reduce the risk of developing this cancer.
Keep in mind, that even though this may be a symptom of bowel cancer, it may also be a symptom of another condition. Symptoms tend to overlap with other conditions so it is still highly advised to consult a doctor to get a proper diagnosis.
While there is no cure for cancer so far, we can only lower the risk we have of developing this condition by making big lifestyle changes. A diet that is high in fiber can help reduce the risk of bowel cancer as it helps regulate bowel movement while providing a feeling of fullness. Engaging in at least 2 hours of exercise a week can also help in order to get to a healthy weight or maintaining a healthy weight.
While these, along with the color of the stool may possibly indicate bowel cancer, the unusual hue in the stool may also pertain to the food taken days before it has passed. There are certain types of food that are known to change the color of the stool. Beets may turn the stool in a dark red color resembling blood, eating blueberries may also give the stool a bluish hue, and leafy vegetables may give the stool a greenish color.
