The holiday season had everyone feasting in the spirit of celebrating, but as the festivities wind down for a bit until the new year celebrations, the bloating that comes with the holiday binging may be the problem to tackle. Here are some ways to get rid of the bloating just in time for the new year.
While we usually save the resolutions of getting fit and losing weight until after the new year or on the day itself, it does not hurt to start as early as the day after Christmas, also known as Boxing Day. Express reports some tips from experts on how to get rid of the bloat that comes after all the holiday binging. First of which is to cut out foods that are known to give people gas or bloating. Vegetables like broccoli and cabbage are known to cause gas and bloating.
A second tip is to exercise. Working out may be the last thing on everyone’s minds after celebrating the holidays, but engaging in some physical activity can help get rid of the bloating. Exercise activates the sweat glands that would release the fluid that the body is retaining, and it is also good for digestion. Upon exercising, the stomach would empty faster, leaving the gas to easily pass into the small intestine and reduce any discomfort, such as bloating.
Sometimes, getting rid of bloating may lie in the way we sit. According to expert Tom Jenane via Mirror, sitting up straight can help with preventing the buildup of gas when eating, which will prevent bloating as well. Jenane also says to eat lighter the days after Christmas, go on a so-called detox by eating healthy and drinking a lot of water to get rid of the bloat. Avoiding fizzy drinks, at least until the new year celebrations as well to get rid or prevent bloating.
Gum chewers may also need to take time off chewing gum for a while as it can also cause bloating. Chewing gum causes gas to build up in the abdomen, resulting in bloating. But another big cause of bloating is stress. The brain has long been linked to the gut, so it is important to take some time to relax, sit down, and breathe in meditation for a few minutes.
