Although the show is still on its fourth season, it should come as a relief to fans that “Better Call Saul” Season 5 has been greenlit and is set for shooting. This should take a lot of the pressure off of the writers from having to close the story of Jimmy McGill (Bob Odenkirk) right away. With that said, perhaps his other alter ego in Gene will finally get more of a focus in the next season?
As of now, no one knows what “Better Call Saul” Season 5 is going to look like. It’s more than probable that even the writers don’t really know what is going to happen in the future episodes, despite the fact that this is a prequel program. This makes the possibility of the story finally catching up to the present day more likely, thus putting the spotlight on Gene, which intrigues Carter Matt.
The idea of expanding on the story of the future identity of Jimmy (or Saul, as he will eventually be known) has been a fascinating one since the show started. Now that “Better Call Saul” Season 5 has been greenlit, it’s more than possible that viewers will finally see where all of Jimmy’s actions have taken him.
This possibility should light some fire in the writers to make the pace of the episodes less sluggish. Recently, the series has been criticized for its slow development, with some episodes featuring no real progress to the story. If they decide to give Gene more screen time in “Better Call Saul” Season 5, it could lead to a brisker pace.
In any case, until the details of “Better Call Saul” Season 5 are revealed, this is all just conjecture. As to when it would even premiere, Otaku Art speculates on a 2019 air date. Based on how well the show is being received, the writers might want to speed things up a bit.
