BankMobile’s Annual Financial Empowerment Scholarship has grown in popularity since its inaugural year, and significantly within the last year with over a 300% increase in applications received from 2016 to 2017.
“I am so grateful to BankMobile for receiving this scholarship, which will help me as I continue my studies at the University of Utah,” stated Scholes. “I value the bank’s determination to help its customers create a solid financial footing and all the innovative ways it is disseminating useful information. I look forward to continuing to promote financial literacy in order to help my fellow students and others in the community.”
“Austin’s submission showed that he is truly dedicated to promoting financial education and we are delighted to award him this scholarship,” stated Luvleen Sidhu, Co-Founder, President and Chief Strategy Officer of BankMobile and Director of the BankMobile Foundation. “BankMobile strives to be the most simple, fun bank in the country that serves millennials and the underbanked, with a mission to financially empower its customers. Through such additional opportunities like this scholarship, we are thrilled to further impact the lives of others.”
During his senior year of high school, Scholes participated in a competition hosted by Mountain America Credit Union. He delved into an extensive campaign focused on gamification and engaging his peers to promote financial literacy. He was chosen as the competition’s first-place winner, which led to his school receiving $3,000. After graduating high school, Scholes began working at Cyprus Credit Union as a financial service representative and currently is in the marketing department at Desert First Credit Union. He uses his position as an opportunity to educate his community through financial literacy quizzes, blog posts, competitions and engaging students.
