When “Avengers: Infinity War” was first announced, it was largely expected that it would be like most typical Marvel films. The bad guy would show up and the heroes would take him out. However, the film surprised most in that it actually resulted in Thanos (Josh Brolin) beating the Avengers and killing half of the universe’s population. According to the director, the reason for splitting this particular story that resulted in “Avengers: Endgame” is the difference in tone.
Speaking to Box Office Pro, “Avengers: Endgame” co-director Joe Russo explained what makes the upcoming title different compared to the previous one. It turns out that it has a lot to do with the tone, which might be a reference to the matter of hope. Where “Infinity War” represented the hopeless resistance to disaster, “Endgame” could be the hopeful journey towards redemption.
"I will say that the movie is definitely unique in tone. It has its own spirit that’s different than Infinity War, which is why I was keen for us to separate the movies,” the director said. “Of course, we’re handing off narratives and it’s been serialized over 22 movies. But, it’s different tonally than Infinity War and it is told from a different point of view. It was important for us in our minds as film directors to separate those two because we do not want to make the same movie twice, and ways that you can differentiate films are through tone and point of view."
With “Avengers: Endgame” coming out next month, expectations are high for the Russo brothers to deliver a film that will give viewers a satisfying ending. The film will be hitting theatres on April 26 and that day is already being predicted as a major event for the MCU. Fans will also see what the director means by a difference in tone.
