“Avatar 2” will be released in over a year, but several interesting plot details were revealed recently. An interview with critically-acclaimed director James Cameron might have suggested that the long-awaited sequel will feature a time jump in its plot.
One of the latest teasers about “Avatar 2” came from Cameron. In a podcast interview (via Empire), the director revealed that Jake (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) will go through some serious message issues that will be witnessed by a child, presumably Jake and Neytiri’s own.
“There’s a three-page argument scene between Jake and Neytiri, a marital dispute, very, very critical to the storyline,” Cameron said about this “Avatar 2” sequence. “I wound up shooting it all from the point of view of the 8-year-old hiding under the structure and peeking in.”
Cameron did not specifically mention whether the child is Jake and Neytiri’s son or daughter, but it is safe to assume that is the case since the interesting scene is all about family. Now, take note that the director described the child as being eight years old that could suggest there will be major time jump somewhere in “Avatar 2’s” timeline.
Meanwhile, Cameron also shared how heavy these “Avatar 2” scenes were to film and how demanding it was for Worthington. “Having gone through the experience with [Worthington] on ‘Avatar,’ I now knew how to write the Jake character going forward across the emotional rollercoaster of the next four movies. It’s been tough on him. He’s done two pictures back to back now because we did 2 and 3 together. He had to go to some dark places,” Cameron added.
Another major change in “Avatar 2” is the setting. The sequel film is expected to further explore Pandora, specifically its bodies of water. It was already confirmed that a huge part of the movies was filmed underwater. “Avatar 2” is slated to premiere on Dec. 18, 2020.
