“Avatar 2” is long delayed since the first film premiered in 2009. Yes, it has been almost a decade since the first one was released so it is understandable why fans are demanding for the next sequel to be shown already.

James Cameron has heard the pleas and requests and he admitted that “Avatar 2” is long overdue. Thus, in an effort to show his gratitude and compensate the fans for their patience, the famous director announced that he will release not just one but four more sequels to the much-loved “Avatar” movie.

Moreover, “Avatar 2” is definitely arriving in theaters soon as Cameron confirmed that filming for the second movie installment is already complete. As per the report, the director posted a video message to give an update about their filming progress.

“Hi, James Cameron here and today I’m coming to you from the set of the Avatar sequels — and behind me, you can see our performance-capture stage,” Deadline quoted the director as saying. “Today we’re capturing some stunt scenes filming some stunt scenes but our principal cast all wrapped: Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang and Kate Winslet.”

What’s more, as “Avatar 2” wraps up filming, James Cameron is also done writing the script for the fifth movie of his “Avatar” franchise so its production is next since the shoot for “Avatar 3” is finished as well. Now, as to what fans can expect in the new movie, it was revealed that the story will take place underwater.

James Cameron said that the underwater scene is actually one of the reasons for the delay of “Avatar 2” because they had to build the stage inside a gigantic aquarium-like set. He added that the technology also slowed them down because he wanted the viewers to watch the film in 3D.

“It is something we never been done before. It’s never been done before and it’s very tricky because our motion capture system, like most motion capture systems, is what they call optical base, meaning that it uses markers that are photographed with hundreds of cameras,” he said.

“Avatar 2” will premiere on Dec. 18, 2020, while the next, “Avatar 3” will be released on Dec. 17, 2021.
