“Avatar 2” has been in the works for quite some time with the cast and crew doing their best to keep a lid on all things related to the upcoming sequel. But in a rare move, Cameron let fans in on the set of the film in the form of a video along with “Fast and the Furious” star Vin Diesel.
After the Instagram post went viral, fans of the franchise were quick to assume that the “Riddick” actor will be part of “Avatar 2.” Unfortunately, nothing has been confirmed just yet. But given that Vin Diesel was allowed to set foot on the set, it’s a strong indication that the star isn’t just there to observe.
After all, Cameron himself said that the making of “Avatar 2” is super top-secret. It wouldn’t make sense for him to invite Diesel unless the two are planning to collaborate. And then there’s also the statement of Diesel to consider.
“It’s long overdue. There is one person in Hollywood I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from… All things come, I guess, to those who wait,” the actor said. So if Diesel is part of “Avatar 2,” what role is he likely going to play?
There are three positions that instantly springs to mind. First is he may playing be a soldier that would replace the role of Trudy (Michelle Rodriguez), the pilot who defected and allied herself with the cause of Jake (Sam Worthington). Diesel could be the weapons specialist in “Avatar 2” that would provide additional firepower for the Na’vi people.
Second is that he may be part of the new Na’vi tribe that will be explored in the sequel; a group that’s been described as exceptional divers. Lastly, Diesel might play the part of a villain. While it’s already been confirmed that Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang) will be the main antagonist for the rest of the franchise, Diesel could play as his right-hand man and provide more complications for Jake and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). Of course, this is merely speculation at this point as it’s not even confirmed if Diesel will indeed be included in “Avatar 2.”
But judging by the video, Diesel’s statements, and Cameron’s invitation, this may likely be the case. Hopefully, Diesel knocks whatever role he’s going to play out of the park. As for its release date, “Avatar 2” is slated to hit cinemas on Dec. 18, 2020.
