Marvel Cinematic Universe is ending a great era of its franchise, to which Vin Diesel and Zoe Saldana are part of, with “Avengers: Endgame.” But these actors are also going to be reunited outside the MCU as the “Fast & Furious” star confirms he has joined the James Cameron-led film saga.
Rumors of Diesel joining “Avatar 2” started from the actor himself after posting an Instagram video with Cameron earlier this month. The critically-acclaimed director confirmed, “Here we are in the set of ‘Avatar’ 2, 3, 4, and 5. This is top-secret; this is like the Manhattan Project with my old buddy, Vin.”
“It’s long overdue. There is one person in Hollywood I’ve always wanted to work with and learn from,” Diesel added as he pointed to Cameron. “All things come, I guess, to those who earned it.” However, the duo did not directly mention Diesel was on set to shoot some scenes. There was also no statement from the producers to confirm if Diesel has been signed for “Avatar 2.” Some considered the possibility that Diesel was just with Cameron to visit the set.
Luckily, the guessing game ended with Diesel finally confirming he is expanding his universe and has joined the Pandora cast. The actor also told Entertainment Tonight that the opportunity of working with Saldana again is one of the reasons that convinced him to do it. “Probably my favorite in the whole cast [and] the closest in my family is Zoe Saldana," Diesel said on the “Avengers: Endgame” premiere. "Hence ‘Avatar.’ Hence why I'm doing ‘Avatar,’ or one of the reasons." However, it is unclear if Diesel is actually joining “Avatar 2.”
As Cameron mentioned, there are for more “Avatar” sequels in the pipeline. But it can be recalled that, as early as fall 2018, there were reports that the “main cast” has already completed filming “Avatar 2” and “Avatar 3.” This information was sealed with Cameron telling fans, “They’re done now, but they gave us incredible performances. And I can’t tell you how proud I am of the work that they did on these films.”
It might take some time before fans could confirm if Diesel is in the cast of “Avatar 2.” The upcoming sequel is not slated to premiere until Dec. 18, 2020.
