Apple Inc. is reportedly preparing to launch its Apple Intelligence artificial intelligence platform in mainland China this December, marking a significant step in expanding its AI services into one of its most important international markets.
According to Bloomberg, citing people familiar with the plans, the technology giant intends to introduce Apple Intelligence through the upcoming iOS 27.3 software update. The rollout would bring several AI-powered features to Chinese users after years of regulatory delays and uncertainty.
The initial release will include artificial intelligence capabilities that debuted in the United States approximately two years ago. These features will be available across Apple's iPhone, iPad, and Mac devices, allowing users in mainland China to access tools already offered in other markets.
However, the December launch will not include Apple's redesigned Siri AI assistant or additional artificial intelligence features announced earlier this year. Those capabilities are expected to remain unavailable during the initial rollout, although the company has not provided a timeline for their introduction in China.
Apple reportedly secured preliminary regulatory approval in July to bring Apple Intelligence to the Chinese market. Since then, the company has continued discussions with China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology to obtain the necessary authorization for a public release.
The planned December debut follows multiple postponements as Apple navigated China's regulatory requirements for artificial intelligence services.
The company originally targeted May 2025 for the launch before shifting its expected release to late 2025. Further delays pushed the anticipated timeline into spring 2026 as Apple continued awaiting government clearance.
The latest reported schedule suggests Apple is moving closer to introducing its AI ecosystem to Chinese consumers, although the launch remains dependent on final regulatory approval.
Expanding Apple Intelligence into mainland China could strengthen Apple's competitive position in the country's smartphone market, where artificial intelligence capabilities are becoming increasingly important to consumers and device manufacturers.
The rollout would also represent a significant milestone in Apple's broader strategy to make its AI-powered software available internationally while complying with local technology regulations.
For now, Chinese Apple users may have to wait until December to access the first wave of Apple Intelligence features, with more advanced Siri capabilities excluded from the initial release.
