“Alita: Battle Angel 2” is coming, and fans just have to stay patient and wait a bit more. James Cameron may announce it at some point, but it will not be any time soon because he is still busy with other projects like the “Avatar” movie series.
While it will be a waiting game, fans can stop worrying because Cameron stated that he and director Robert Rodriguez are working on “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” In fact, their plans for it have been on the table even before the first movie was released.
"Well, we obviously have a plan for that, but it's cheeky to set up a sequel before you're proven. That can blow back in your face,” CBR quoted Cameron as saying during a press event for the film. “We think of something like Warcraft that was clearly set up with the intention to do sequels, and then it becomes mock-able because the film doesn't succeed.”
Plus, fans will feel more assured to know that James Cameron already sent the draft for the script of “Alita: Battle Angel 2.” Rodriguez revealed that the notes are already in his hands and he is already reviewing it.
"There's like one whole document about the trilogy," the director Rodriguez told Digital Spy. "Because that's just part of his process - 'Here are three movies, just so you know what to include in the first story and whatnot.'"
When “Alita: Battle Angel 2” returns, it is expected to feature the same actors led by Rosa Salazar (Alita), Christoph Waltz (Dr. Dyson Ivo), Jennifer Connelly (Chiren), Keean Johnson (Hugo), Mahershala Ali (Vector), Ed Skrein (Zapan), Jackie Earle (Haley), Michelle Rodriguez (Gelda), Eiza González (Nyssiana) and Lana Condor.
“Alita: Battle Angel 2” will still be based on Gunnm, the Japanese manga series written by Yukito Kishiro. It was first published in Shueisha's Business Jump magazine and run for five years - from 1990 to 1995.
Finally, the original film debuted in February, and it raked in $403 million worldwide. This figure is another reason why “Alita: Battle Angel 2” is sure to go into production and released.
