“Alita: Battle Angel 2” is not yet confirmed, so fans who love the movie started a petition for James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez to produce the sequel. This just showed that the film already built a strong fanbase despite the fact that “Alita” was only launched early this year.
The movie was based from the manga series created by Yukito Kishiro and originally published in Shueisha's Business Jump magazine from 1990 to 1995. Its film adaptation was released on February 14 and moviegoers were drawn to the story of Alita, a female cyborg. It was called a groundbreaking movie that deserves a sequel thus more people have joined the call for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” to happen.
In the petition that was posted on Change.org, the petitioner Phillip Grube said that the first movie clearly ended with a sequence that calls for a continuation. He said that he came to know about Alita through the movie and he believes there are more stories to tell.
He made the petition just two weeks after “Alita: Battle Angel” was released and at that time, he said that the film is nearing its break-even point so there is a huge possibility for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” and he wants others to support the petition so that Cameron and Rodriguez will hear their plea. As of this time, more than 51,000 already signed out of the targeted 75,000 supporters.
The good news is that Cameron and Rodriguez already revealed that they really have plans for “Alita: Battle Angel 2” and they just need to sort things out for its production. They have notes for the story, and scripts plus the movie earned $404.9 million worldwide, so there is a high chance for the sequel.
"Well, we obviously have a plan for that,” Rodriguez told Digital Spy. “But it's cheeky to set up a sequel before you're proven.”
