It’s no secret that “Agents of SHIELD” is a series that has to contend with the giant MCU movie industry in terms of the story and the characters that it shows. In “Agents of SHIELD” Season 6, the folks behind the show were faced with the difficulty of having to deal with the events in “Avengers: Endgame.” This is why Jed Whedon and Jeff Bell, executive producers of the show explain that they simply ignored the timeline set up by the films.
The producers provided plenty of insights into what “Agents of SHIELD” Season 6 is going to be about in an interview with Collider. In particular, is the matter of how the story is going to deal with the events in “Endgame” with the prospect of spoilers in mind. Since it would be too difficult to come up with a way to try and maneuver the plot around the subject, they simply decided to go ahead and ignore everything.
“Part of it had to do with the question of when we’d air, truthfully. We had talked about summer, but there was always a chance that we’d get moved up to the beginning of the year. With the amount of characters and money and machine in place with Endgame, we had to dodge it completely,” Whedon said.
“It was a challenge, and we talked a lot about it. If we came in and said it was five or six years later, there were just too many questions. There were too many words that we were not allowed to say, if that makes sense. So, that’s the decision that was made because we didn’t know [when we’d air],” Bell added.
As it turns out, trying to create a TV series without compromising the films is no easy task. Viewers will see for themselves if it was worth all the effort when they watch all episodes of “Agents of SHIELD” Season 6. The new season premiered on May 10 and airs every Friday night.
