Details about “Age of Empires 4” has been scant following its announcement in Gamescom 2017. However, it appears that Microsoft is slowly developing the game as it’s currently looking for a design director that would oversee the upcoming real-time strategy title.
But even though this is good news, it’s still worrying that Microsoft is only looking for the position now, two years after “Age of Empires 4” was announced. There’s also the fact that Relic Entertainment has been tasked to develop this game. Why is Microsoft the one actively looking for a design director instead of the studio that is developing it?
The answer to that is muddy since both Microsoft and Relic Entertainment are maintaining their silence about “Age of Empires 4.” Overall, however, it’s still good that progress is being made for the beloved RTS title.
Transitioning to a different position, it’s been revealed in January that “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt” composer Mikolai Stroinski has been added to the team as well. Stroinski will be handling the soundtrack creation of “Age of Empires 4” leading a lot of fans excited given that the composer did a stellar job at producing music for “The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.”
In the post, the popular composer said that he’s been working on the project for a couple of months, providing yet another clue that the development phase of the game is still on its early stages. Aside from the reveal, no further information has been offered leaving, fans to wonder the current state of “Age of Empires 4” and the progress that the developers have made. What we do know is that it’s going to be played exclusively on Windows 10, PCGamer reported.
Little can be gleaned on the trailer of “Age of Empires 4” as well. In the clip, several military factions can be seen throughout the history including Roman Legionnaires, British Redcoats, Native Americans, Aztec Tribes, Japanese Samurais, and more.
Whether or not these groups will be units or individual factions in “Age of Empires 4” remains to be seen. Hopefully, Microsoft provides more information about the game in the upcoming E3 conference as the silence is deafening at this point. Regarding when it’s going to be released, it’s not expected to come out anytime soon, perhaps on the later months of 2020 or even beyond that. Again, it’s anybody’s guess at the moment.
