‘Westworld’ Season 2 Spoilers: Creators Tease Possible Time Jump; Evan Rachel Wood, Thandie Newton Reveal Roles Help Female Empowerment

‘Westworld’ season 2 creators teased a possible time jump for the show during a recent interview. Meanwhile, stars Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton revealed that their roles are important in female empowerment.

According to Entertainment Weekly, co-creators Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy admitted that the upcoming season will not pick up immediately after the events of the first season but instead will experience a time jump. The cast and crew of ‘Westworld’ attended a panel at PaleyFest in Los Angeles.

Joy teased, “You’re definitely going to see the aftermath and the effects of what happened.” Nolan added, “We are definitely not picking up right where we left off.”

Season 1 of HBO’s science-fiction western-thriller television series based on the 1973 film of the same name ended in a cliffhanger. Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) successfully killed off Ford (Anthony Hopkins) while the other Hosts rose in a rebellion, proving that they have the ability to harm Guests. It is unclear how far into the future the series will go when it returns to HBO.

Meanwhile, Wood expressed her excitement over the series and even called it “the greatest show of all time.” According to Bustle, Wood said, "[It's] incredible. She's my favorite character I've ever played… It really changed my life."

The 29-year old actress plays Dolores Abernathy, the oldest Host in Westworld that somehow attains sentience and discovers that her entire existence has been an elaborate lie. Wood explained that the work needed to bring Dolores to life was an empowering experience.

Wood said, "We found out so close to shooting what was going to happen. When we were in those moments, it was so raw and fresh… It was amazing to have the opportunity to really not know too far in advance... I hug [co-creator] Lisa Joy and Jonah, just weeping, for a season with them.”

She added, "This role is just — these don't exist. Especially for women. It was really life-changing getting the opportunity to do it."

Thandie Newton, who plays the Host madam Maeve Millay, also explained that her role helped in her work as an activist for women. She admitted that she was initially “terrified” by the show’s nudity and violence but eventually realized its true intention.

Newton said, "When I [used to] go to work, I [would] have to just be the actor... with the work I do in my life, trying to empower women and men, I had to leave behind… [On Westworld], I was an activist every single day I went to work. I felt part of a solution every single day."

‘Westworld’ season 2 is expected to return to HBO sometime in 2018 and will be composed of 10 episodes.
