Uzbekistan Airways has signed a landmark agreement with Boeing worth more than $8 billion to expand its fleet with the advanced Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Announced on the sidelines of the 80th United Nations General Assembly in New York, the deal marks the largest commercial aircraft agreement of its kind in Central Asia, according to the U.S. Commerce Department.
The agreement includes the purchase of 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with options for an additional eight, bringing the potential total to 22 aircraft. Valued at $8.5 billion, the order underscores Uzbekistan’s commitment to modernizing its aviation industry and strengthening its position in global air travel.
U.S. President Donald Trump revealed on Truth Social that he had discussed the deal earlier this month with Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Both Trump and Boeing emphasized the deal’s economic impact, highlighting that it will support nearly 35,000 U.S. jobs.
Boeing issued a statement confirming the order, praising the agreement as a milestone that will deepen ties between the United States and Uzbekistan while advancing the country’s aviation capabilities. The Dreamliner, known for its fuel efficiency and passenger comfort, is expected to enhance Uzbekistan Airways’ ability to expand international routes and compete with leading global carriers.
The U.S. Commerce Department noted the strategic importance of the deal, calling it a significant step for Central Asia’s aviation sector. For Boeing, the order further cements its presence in emerging markets, while for Uzbekistan, it represents a leap forward in aligning with modern aviation standards.
At $8.5 billion, this aircraft purchase signals Uzbekistan’s ambitious growth strategy, promising stronger connectivity, economic benefits, and increased travel opportunities across key global destinations.
