GREENVILLE, S.C., Nov. 30, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- eRAD, a subsidiary of RadNet, Inc. and a leading provider of standards-based, web-centric radiology image and data management solutions, announced today that University MRI & Diagnostic Imaging Centers (UMRI) of Boca Raton, Fla., has selected eRAD’s Enterprise RIS/PACS/Speech Recognition platform to automate its business and clinical workflow management.
With two busy multi-modality locations, UMRI has been a staple of the medical imaging community of south Palm Beach County and northern Broward County for nearly two decades. “We’ve been recognized as a leader in imaging services in this market for many years, and we’re constantly re-evaluating the service we’re offering to our referring physicians and their patients,” remarked Fred Steinberg, MD, Medical Director and founder of UMRI.
“This year we took on several initiatives. For example, we’re installing a new state-of-the-art 3-Tesla MRI unit. Another of these initiatives was to completely re-evaluate our technology and workflow across the front office, the radiologist, and IT departments. In the past, we would have to contract with several different companies and cobble the systems together with complicated interfaces. With eRAD we were able to get everything in one system and from one vendor,” said Steinberg.
This approach delivers the simplicity and efficiency that will make a difference for UMRI—from both a clinical and business perspective. “We saw what eRAD was doing through their work with the RadNet imaging center network and figured if they could streamline and automate workflow for that many imaging centers, we too could benefit,” said Steinberg.
The implementation will take place in two phases to allow for a smooth transition. PACS and Integrated Speech Recognition are slated to go-live the first week in January 2016. The RIS portion of the project will follow two to three months later, after UMRI has fully adapted to the phase one changes.
The project also entails a fairly significant data migration from the legacy RIS and PACS systems, in use for several years. When the project is fully implemented, the data will all be archived in the eRAD cloud so that referring physicians can access it via the easy-to-use eRAD portal, which only requires a simple internet connection for anywhere access.
“We are really pleased to have UMRI joining the eRAD team,” said Seth Koeppel, SVP of Sales at eRAD. “These are very complex, enterprise-wide systems that impact all the stakeholders in the delivery of high-end medical imaging. UMRI staff was very discerning in ensuring that all the business and clinical needs of the practice will be met—a time-consuming and challenging task. They are a very experienced operation and asked all the tough questions, and an informed buyer always makes for a better customer in the long run. I have no doubt UMRI will quickly appreciate the benefits of having eRAD in their facilities.”
