Turkish retail sales fall year-on-year in January

Turkish retail sales dropped in January. On a year-on-year basis, retail sales volume with constant prices dropped 6.7 percent. In the same month food, drinks and tobacco sales dropped 2.9 percent, while non-food sales and automotive fuel sales fell 10.3 percent and 2.8 percent, respectively.

On a sequential basis, the seasonal and calendar adjusted retail sales volume with constant prices rose 1.3 percent. Non-food sales were up 0.5 percent, while automotive fuel sales rose 4.8 percent, and food, drinks and tobacco sales stayed stable.

Retail turnover with current prices were up 12.1 percent in January on a year-on-year basis. Foods, drinks and tobacco sales rose 17.9 percent. Meanwhile, non-food sales and automotive fuel sales were up 10.6 percent and 7 percent, respectively.

Sequentially, retail turnover rose 2.4 percent. Food, drinks and tobacco sales rose 2.1 percent. Meanwhile, non-food sales and automotive fuel sales were up 1.5 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively.
