'The Witcher' Season 4 Release Date, Cast and Spoilers: Everything Fans Should Know

Here is everything we know so far about the upcoming "The Witcher" Season 4.

Netflix has formally greenlit “The Witcher” Season 4 via an Instagram announcement for August 2022, promising more action and fantasy. Fans should hold on to their swords, however, for there is a twist: Henry Cavill, who played Geralt of Rivia, is transferring the mantle to Liam Hemsworth for the upcoming film.

The casting of Liam Hemsworth as Geralt in “The Witcher” Season 4 and beyond has sparked a lot of curiosity in future episodes, but it's not the only reason. The show's writers have methodically planned the fourth season, with most of the existing ensemble returning to complete the character arcs they created over the series.

The new season will likely focus again on Geralt of Rivia as he continues his exploits in this dangerous world and improves his powers as the Witcher. Most, if not all, fans are aware that the series' renewal has been in doubt since there were rumors that Henry might be departing the show, but Geralt's story will continue as it has previously been established without him. While fans wait for additional information, here is all we know thus far about “The Witcher” Season 4.

The Witcher’ Season 4 Release Date

Unfortunately, no official release date for “The Witcher” Season 4 has been revealed by Netflix. According to FTIA's production schedule, filming for the upcoming part will begin in September 2023. However, Redanian Intelligence says that the crew has changed their goal date to the beginning of 2024. If the alleged delays are correct, fans of the show could be looking at a 2025 premiere date, per EpicFlix. We'll keep this space updated when new information becomes available.

Meanwhile, it's worth mentioning that, as of this writing, Netflix has yet to confirm any “The Witcher” Season 4 rumors. If it is delayed, it will almost certainly be due to the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes, fighting for fair pay in the streaming era. However, because much of the show is shot internationally, it may be allowed to continue filming, like “The Rings of Power” Season 2 and “House of the Dragon” Season 2 have been.

The Witcher’ Season 4 Cast

One of the most noticeable and significant parts of “The Witcher” Season 4 is the fact that Liam Hemsworth will replace Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia. "I think, holistically, Henry gave us an incredible three seasons of Geralt, but there have been so many franchises that have had really strong title characters and eventually, for whatever reason, personal decision or, or just the length of time frame, the title character changes actors,” executive producer Steve Gaub told Radio Times.

Several fans were saddened when Henry announced his departure from the series in October 2022. While many people are upset over the recasting, some are optimistic about Liam taking over the role in “The Witcher” Season 4.

Hugh Skinner as Prince Radovid, Graham McTavish as Sigismund Dijkstra, Cassie Clare as Philippa Eilhart, Mecia Simson as Francesca Findabair, and Mimi M. Khayisa as Fringilla Vigo are also likely to return in “The Witcher” Season 4. Eamon Farren will reprise his role as Cahir in the upcoming film, joining Bart Edwards as Emperor Emhyr, Mahesh Jadu as Vilgefortz, Joey Batey as Jaskier, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg.

The Witcher’ Season 4 Spoilers

The plot details of “The Witcher” Season 4 have yet to be released by Netflix. However, based on the order of Andrzej Sapkowski's books, the fourth installment would make sense to include the events of Baptism of Fire, which opens with Geralt recovering from the Thanedd Island coup and Ciri's involvement with The Rats.

Geralt's romantic relationship with Yennefer will apparently play an important role in “The Witcher” Season 4, and changes made to Ciri's plotline in Season 3 signal that her character will also embark on a fascinating journey. The fourth installment might go in almost any direction because there is still so much source material to explore.

The only clear part of “The Witcher” Season 4 plot is its "multiple worlds," but how the latest edition will employ the multiverse is uncertain. In terms of Yennefer, the fourth season is unlikely to stick to the source material, therefore, it is unclear what will happen to her.

Vilgefortz, on the other hand, is certain to pursue Yennefer while keeping a low profile. The malevolent wizard is attempting to obtain access to the Monoliths, which could happen in “The Witcher” Season 4, and fans may finally learn Vilgefortz's plan.

While rescuing Ciri is Geralt's primary goal in the upcoming fourth episode, the wizard is also on Geralt's kill list, and a confrontation between them is possible. “The Witcher” Season 4 might be an eight-episode epic, multiverse-spanning struggle, similar to Season 3.
