“The Winds of Winter” is finally coming and it may be sooner than expected. This fact emerged after the 71-year-old author said that he is hoping to finish the book in the “relatively near future.”

Fans are eagerly waiting for the sixth book in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series since the last part was released in 2011. This means that there is already an eight-year gap between the fifth and sixth book, and fans are hoping that the waiting will end soon.

Is Martin nearly finished with the book?

George RR Martin recently had an interview when he appeared that the Chicago Humanities Festival in October. During the event, he talked about “The Winds of Winter” and he seemed to have said that he is nearing completion. The way he spoke about the much-anticipated novel made people think that he is approaching the end of writing “TWOW”; thus, the release date may not be far from now.

“When I actually finish a book you know the rush that comes through me,” Martin told fellow author Eve Ewing during the interview. “It was easier to write short stories then because then I would get that rush you know every few weeks but now I get that rush every, you know, eight years or something like that. but it's a great rush, and I'm hoping to have it again in the relatively near future when I finish Winds of Winter.”

What the fans think

With Martin’s newest statements, fans headed to Reddit to discuss what he said. They pointed out the fact that GRMM’s words that say “relatively near future” are encouraging and they believe he is saying that he is really close to finishing “The Winds of Winter.”

But then, some added that although Martin’s words offer hopes that the book will be out soon, people should not totally keep their hopes up because they may just end up being disappointed again. The commenter explained that this is because this is actually not the first time that the author said something about finishing the book soon.

Finally, it is likely that some fans think this way because George RR Martin was recently reported to have accepted a new job from HBO. He will be the executive producer of the new “Game of Thrones” prequel called the “House of the Dragon.” With his new workload, people wonder if he could work on “The Winds of Winter” while also preparing for the new HBO drama.
