‘The Man in the High Castle’ season 3 has been officially renewed on Amazon and is expected to return late in 2017. Eric Overmyer has been appointed the new showrunner following Frank Spotnitz’ departure from the series.
According to Deadline, Amazon has officially ordered a third season for the American dystopian alternative history television series loosely based on the 1962 novel of the same name authored by Philip K. Dick. The series follows an alternate history world, where the Axis Powers of Germany, Japan, and Italy took control after winning World War II.
Eric Overmyer, who executive produced another Amazon series ‘Bosch,’ was appointed the new showrunner following the sudden departure of series developer, executive producer, and showrunner Frank Spotnitz during production on Season 2. His exit was reportedly due to clashes with Amazon.
Ridley Scott, Richard Heus, David W. Zucker, Isa Dick Hackett, and Daniel Percival will executive produce for Season 3 alongside Overmyer.
Joe Lewis, Head of Comedy and Drama at Amazon Studios, revealed, “As timely as ever, the exploration of characters at a dark point for humanity has provided incredible stories for two seasons… Eric [Overmyer] and his team are doing an incredible job crafting stories about the inner lives of those who struggle to do good in a world that is not.”
The series reportedly broke streaming records for Amazon back in season 1, which aired its pilot episode on January 2015. A second season composed of ten episodes premiered on December 2016 and also earned the most viewers over its debut weekend.
According to Comingsoon.net, the series stars Alexa Davalos as main protagonist Juliana Crain, Rupert Evans as Juliana’s boyfriend Frank Fink, Luke Kleintank as underground American resistance recruit Joe Blake, DJ Qualls as Frank's co-worker and friend Ed McCarthy, Joel De La Fuente as Kempeitai head Chief Inspector Takeshi Kido, Brennan Brown as antique store owner Robert Childan, Bella Heathcote as Berlin-born filmmaker Nicole Dörmer, and Callum Keith Rennie as West Coast Resistance movement leader Gary Connell.
In the series, Japan dominates the former United States’ West Coast while Germany controls much of the East Coast. The Rocky Mountains have become a neutral zone and is ground zero for the American resistance headed by a mysterious figure called the Man in the High Castle.
Season 2 followed Juliana and Frank as they continued to fight for their own versions of the truth among the disorder. The Man himself (Stephen Root) was also revealed.
‘The Man in the High Castle’ season 3 is expected to return on Amazon sometime in late 2017.
