Terra Food and Agriculture Tech Accelerator selects blockchain firm ripe.io for first cohort

Blockchain company ripe.io that provides a distributed, shared system for food supply chain, announced that it has been selected for the first cohort of startups for Terra, the Food + Ag Tech Accelerator.

Terra Accelerator brings the industry’s most disruptive startups and progressive corporations to fuel cross-industry innovation as well as set a new standard for food and agriculture. Terra combines the global tech ecosystem of RocketSpace and startup network with Rabobank’s food and agribusiness leadership and expertise.

“We are honored and thrilled to be a part of the Terra Food and Ag Accelerator. We are looking forward to working with such a strong group of corporate collaborators and driving positive changes in the food supply chain. We believe the application of blockchain technology will have a profound impact on the agriculture and food industry,” Raja Ramachandran, Founder, and CEO of ripe.io, said.

Terra’s unique model offers selected startups with the opportunity to work hand-in-hand with its corporate partners in a dedicated product validation program. The inaugural cohort kicks off on RocketSpace’s tech campus in San Francisco with global representation from across five countries Spain, USA, UK, Canada and Thailand.

Apart from ripe.io, the startups selected for the first cohort include Aromyx, Brio, mOasis, Impact Vision, Clear Labs, biomarker.io, among others.

“ripe.io joins a cohort that has the potential to define the future of food and agriculture and it’s our goal to provide the velocity – speed and direction – to help them scale their solutions,” Ron Yerkes, vice-president of Industry Tech Accelerators at RocketSpace, stated. “It’s going to be an exciting adventure working directly with some of the world’s most progressive corporations.”

ripe.io was selected by Rabobank and RocketSpace, along with Terra’s corporate collaborators – AgroFresh, Beta San Miguel, Givaudan, Griffith Foods, among others, from hundreds of applicants across the globe.

The ‘Blockchain for Food’ company ripe.io will gain brand exposure as well as the opportunity to validate its product in collaboration with multiple industry corporations. The Accelerator includes pilot testing and its model is structured to proceed beyond a proof of concept to a commercially viable product.
