“Steven Universe” season 6 is awaited, but unfortunately there is no announcement yet about it. There were reports that the fifth installment was the last and the “Change Your Mind” finale showed the best ending, however, Cartoon Network or the series’ creator Rebecca Sugar never mentioned about the show’s conclusion yet.
The notion that there will be no “Steven Universe” season 6 anymore was heightened when it was announced that there would be a “Steven Universe” movie. Based on speculations, the film could have been made to wrap up the whole franchise. While this may sound convincing, this is actually not the case.
In February, an Apple podcast featured Rebecca Sugar and former co-executive producer Ian Jones-Quartey as guests. During the show, the two discussed about season 5’s finale, and they mentioned that “Change Your Mind” is actually a time of realization for Steven. As he discovers more about himself, he will mature, and it was suggested that the viewers would see changes in him in “Steven Universe” season 6.
They said that as Steven realized that he is is a Pink Diamond, the story will change as he will now grow up as a person. This means that his childishness will become less as he transition to a more mature individual who can decide and stand up for himself.
“I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that this specific arc of Steven’s, like “Change Your Mind” definitely makes a definitive statement on Steven and who he is and what he thinks he is and how he feels about it,” Jones-Quartey said in the podcast. “The thing about Steven Universe is that it’s a coming of age story and this is something that he had to figure out in order to start making decisions for himself.”
But then again, aside from this spoiler, not much is known about “Steven Universe” season 6. Perhaps, the next installment will explain how and why Steven is a pink diamond; thus, a backstory is possible.
Meanwhile, a movie has been confirmed last year and recently it was revealed that it would be a musical. “Steven Universe: The Movie” will feature new songs written by “Steven Universe” season 6 creator Rebecca Sugar and sung by Chance the Rapper, Estelle Darlings, Patti LuPone, Aimee Mann and more.
As per Deadline, the movie is expected to arrive this fall. Later this year, the DVD and digital movie soundtracks will also be released.
