Shinsegae I&C Inc. and Tmap Mobility Co. Ltd. have joined forces for the expansion of their electric car charging business. The companies confirmed their partnership earlier this week.
Under the terms agreed upon by Shinsegae I&C and Tmap Mobility, the latter will provide real-time information on the exact location and usage of chargers. The tracking will be done through its Tmap navigation app which will also provide directions to charging station locations and payment, according to The Korea Economic Daily.
Shinsegae I&C has been offering electric vehicle charging services called "Spharos EV" and it is planning to operate the program based on big data from Tmap. Data to be used include the number of vehicles that were provided with directions and the number of destination searches.
In any case, the signing of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) was held during a ceremony at the headquarters of Shinsegae I&C in Jung-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by Tmap Mobility chief executive officer, Lee Jong Ho and the IT service management company’s chief, Hyung Hyung Joon.
"We expect that we will be able to introduce new services that can lead the industry by combining Shinsegae I&C 's differentiated charging technology and infrastructure with Tmap Mobility's platform-based powerful data capabilities,” Shinsegae I&C’s CEO said in a press release. “We will continue to make continuous efforts to provide innovative and differentiated charging experiences to customers who use charging services in all areas, including Sparos EV's unique technology, platform, and infrastructure.”
Tmap Mobility’s Lee Jong Ho added, “The meeting of Shinsegae I&C’s electric vehicle charging infrastructure and TMAP ’s AI and big data competitiveness will further enhance the convenience of electric vehicle users.”
Meanwhile, Shinsegae I&C’s Spharos EV will be used for the charging service. It will rely on Tmap Mobility’s data to obtain real-time information in programming its system for its collaborative service offering.
