ShapeShift launches 'Ethereum Splitter' tool to help users separate ETH and ETC

In order to help users easily separate their Ethereum and Ethereum Classic, ShapeShift has released a new tool – “Ethereum Splitter”.

Following the hard fork, there are two separate chains – Ethereum (the chain after the fork) and Ethereum Classic (supporting the original vision of Ethereum prior to the fork). ShapeShift noted that many Ethereum addresses have both Ethereum and Ethereum Classic balances and sending can inadvertently result in lost funds on one or the other chain.

This problem is addressed by the new tool, which can be used by anyone to clean their balances, so that Ethereum goes to a clean Ethereum address, and Ethereum Classic goes to a clean Classic address. Funds can be sent into the splitter from any wallet or exchange.

The tool can be accessed here: split.shapeshift.io. The page lays out the various steps which the users must follow for getting started. Users have to enter their “clean” ETH and ETC address (clean address is an address created post-fork, which has only Ethereum coins or Ethereum Classic coins, but not both).

“Click "Start" after you have input these address and then send any Ethereum or Ethereum Classic to the address we provide to you. You will see "Awaiting Deposit" under this address until you have sent your funds”, ShapeShift explained. “Once we have recieved your funds, the status will change to "Deposit Received"."

Once the order is completed, the status "You split is now completed" will appear and users will be prompted to check their Ethereum Transaction and Ethereum Classic Transaction.

For this service, ShapeShift is charging a fee of .25%, as well as a 0.02 ETH gas cost. Moreover, users are required to deposit over 0.5 ETH/ETC in order for the transaction to process.
