The Shonda Rhimes-created series “Scandal” has reached its 100th episode, and to celebrate the ABC drama’s TV success, will bring a new twist.
Variety said the 100th episode, which debuted on Thursday, is an alternative universe wherein Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) did not help Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Cyrus (Jeff Perry) rig the election that made Fitz (Tony Goldwyn) president. Titled “The Decision,” the episode will show a scenario wherein the truth about Frankie Vargas’ assassination was revealed.
Tony Goldwyn (who plays Fitz) told Entertainment Weekly previously that his character would not turn out to be the man he is now if things were different. He said, "He’s very different. It’s something of a study of how the circumstances of our lives shape our identity, how we see ourselves, and how we present ourselves to the world. It’s subtle, the difference, it’s just really interesting who he is and what he struggles with. He ultimately is quite different.”
Although a sneaky promo showed Olivia wearing a wedding dress, Romper said that it also doesn’t mean that she’d ultimately end up with Fitz. As with Fitz, the episode will only reveal the truth, which is that Fitz was always meant to be president no matter the situation.
But when the cast was asked about their presidential predictions during an interview about the show’s 100 episodes, they all guessed that Mellie will be the first female US president by end of Season 6, ABC News reported. According to them, they are at the mercy of Rhimes and are also surprised of the show's shocking twists and turns.
