Saudi Arabia warns President-elect Trump on oil imports

Saudi Arabia has warned the President-elect Donald Trump that he would hinder the economic growth in the United States if he moves along his campaign promises to block imports of crude oil from OPEC countries namely Saudi Arabia. During his campaign, Mr. Trump has pledged to block imports of crude oil from foes of the United States as well as the cartel. He has promised to steer the country to fully energy independent one during his tenure in the office. He has promised to remove all the unnecessary regulations blocking not only oil but coal and natural gas as well.

Saudi Arabia’s oil minister Khalid al-Falih said, “At his heart President-elect Trump will see the benefits and I think the oil industry will also be advising him accordingly that blocking trade in any product is not healthy”. He said that the United States is an important part of the global industry that is interconnected and the US is the flag bearer for capitalism and a free market.

If Donald Trump pushes ahead with his energy ideas, the move could cost Saudi Arabia around $50 million per day at the very least.
