Reuters collaborates with Imperial College London for FinTech and RegTech research

Thomson Reuters announced that it has joined hands with Imperial College London in order to advance faster innovations in FinTech and RegTech industries through collaborative research projects.

According to the official release, the projects will bring data science expertise from corporate as well as academic worlds to solve global data challenges that impact financial and legal professionals. Apart from financial data and legal expertise, the media company will contribute data management and machine learning expertise to Imperial’s data visualization studio.

“This exciting collaboration is part of our growing global strategy to drive faster innovation in FinTech and RegTech that helps our customers respond to change and opportunity across the financial and legal services industries,” Mark Rodrigues, global managing director of strategic customers and solutions group at Thomson Reuters said.

Academics, financial markets institutions, and technology firms with this partnership can unite to solve the issues in FinTech including financial risk management, real-time data analysis among others and also RegTech issues like the impact of regulation.

Imperial College London which always ranks in global top ten universities, created the Data Science Institute in a move to bring together expertise from across its faculties. Its partnership with Reuters marks the next-step in creating technology solutions that are supported by academic research, experimentation, and proof-of-concept applications.

“Our Data Science Institute is harnessing the wealth of data generated by our society to search for solutions to some of the greatest challenges facing our world today,” Professor Yi-ke Guo, director of the Data Science Institute at Imperial said. “This latest partnership with Thomson Reuters will present new opportunities to unlock hidden insights, drive forward innovation, and create value by harnessing data. We look forward to working with them in this important area.”

The collaboration follows the openings of further research facilities in London and Zurich which are latest locations as a part of Thomson Reuters Labs’. These labs offer facilities for partnerships between tech startups, customers and universities.
