It is very typical for siblings to grow up with a little bit of rivalry. But it means a whole different level if it is applied to royal siblings like Prince Andrew and Prince Charles. However, in most cases, the rivalry exists through the comparisons made by the media and by some people who had the chance to work with them at some point.

Prince Andrew and Prince Charles’s supposed sibling rivalry is recalled in a recent report of Daily Express based on accounts in Andrew Morton’s 1983 book “Andrew: The Playboy Prince.” It included several statements from people who worked and interacted with the royals, especially during their time of service in the Royal Navy.

It is also impossible for Prince Andrew and Prince Charles to evade the comparisons when they have so much in common. They both attended Britannia Royal Naval College (also known as Dartmouth) and have also served in the British aircraft carrier HMS Hermes. The said book had interviews with people that knew them from these places and who claimed to have spotted the difference between Queen Elizabeth II’s sons.

Morton’s book said some of the recruits that attended Dartmouth at the same time as Prince Andrew were not very pleased with his presence. One of them reportedly said Prince Andrew “seemed rather arrogant” and allegedly made sure that everyone remembers his royal status.

Even members of the faculty were seemingly more fond of Prince Charles than his younger brother. “Prince Charles is still remembered with tremendous affection, but Andrew isn’t popular with either the staff or his fellow cadets,” a teacher in Dartmouth told Morton. “His brother was a great practical joker, but Andrew walks away from anything like that.”

Meanwhile, a member of the HMS Hermes crew was also asked to comment on the royals and practically said the same thing. While Morton’s source said Prince Andrew was “likable,” he was described as a “mummy’s boy” unlike Prince Charles.
