Open Data Center Alliance Publishes New Cloud Maturity Model 3.0

PORTLAND, Ore., Feb. 1, 2016 -- The Open Data Center Alliance (ODCA) today published the executive overview for version 3.0 of its popular Cloud Maturity Model (CMM 3.0).

The CMM 3.0 addresses the maturity of an IT organization's business and technology capabilities in specific domains and across cloud service models, such as:

• Software as a Service (SaaS);
• Platform as a Service (PaaS);
• Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS);
• Database as a Service (DBaaS);A
• Integration Platform as a Service (IPaaS);
• Information-as a Service; and
• Others

After assessing its organizational maturity level, IT and operational teams can use the CMM to identify specific elements that are necessary to achieve desired improvements. These elements include operational processes and best practices, which are independent of hardware and software decisions. In many cases, such elements are missing from IT organizational practices, so the CMM helps IT and operational professionals develop a practical roadmap to achieve the desired benefits.

History of Cloud Maturity Model

Since 2011, the Open Data Center Alliance has published usage models and other tools focused on the most pressing challenges surrounding open data center operations, outsourcing and cloud deployment. The Cloud Maturity Model is the most widely utilized.

Public- and private-sector organizations have used the ODCA's CMM to guide wide-scale implementations including the selection of cloud solutions and services. Many forward-thinking vendors integrate ODCA best practices into product and service roadmaps to support open standards and interoperability.

Open Framework, People and Processes Guide Cloud Evolution

The CMM provides an end-to-end visualization for how the use of cloud services may evolve over time and how the enterprise may expand its ability to adopt cloud-based services within defined objectives, governance and control parameters.

As an organization matures, the use of cloud becomes more sophisticated, comprehensive and optimized. The CMM provides an adoption roadmap for structured cloud service integration from a baseline of no cloud use through five progressive levels of maturity.
