BOSTON, Feb. 07, 2016 -- On Point Acupuncture & Wellness uses myofascial release to treat patients. Myofascial release is a gentle, hands-on massage technique used to alleviate pain and restore motion. This technique works by using sustained pressure to break down connective tissue restrictions and allow the viscoelastic medium (fascia) to lengthen. Fascia is a thin fibrous tissue that encloses a muscle or other organ. By lengthening these tissues, patients feel less pain with movement and activity.
On Point Acupuncture & Wellness uses myofascial release along with other massage techniques to help clients return to a state of health and wellness. According to Karin Kramer, Lic. Ac., and founder of On Point Acupuncture & Wellness, "Our practitioners use a variety of massage techniques but have found myofascial release to be extraordinarily beneficial. Pain is the biggest complaint our patients have when they arrive in our office. It may be pain associated with daily activities or pain associated with some type of sport that they can no longer participate in. Our goal as acupuncturists and massage therapists is to do everything we can to get them back to the activities they need or love to do."
On Point Acupuncture & Wellness offers a viable alternative to traditional medicine at multiple offices in Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts. In addition to myofascial release, Kramer and her staff use orthopedic massage therapy, sports massage, Swedish/relaxation massage and chair massage. "We have a wide variety of techniques that we can use individually or collaborate with one another to create an individualized plan for each patient," stated Kramer. "We also provide acupuncture, nutrition and Chinese herbs and physical therapy services.”
Myofascial release can also be combined with physical therapy at On Point Acupuncture & Wellness. After an accident or a patient begins experiencing chronic, ongoing pain, the staff can assess his or her need for physiotherapy services. With a specific treatment plan of manual manipulations and at home exercises, patients can experience less pain, increased activity ability and levels, and safeguard against future injuries by strengthening the weak areas of their bodies. "We believe that physical therapy is most effective when combined with other techniques such as massage therapy and acupuncture. These techniques allow the body to heal itself from within while strengthening weak or injured areas to prevent future problems," stated Kramer.
