Norwegian Air Group saw strong growth in March, transporting nearly 1.9 million passengers as it geared up for the summer travel season. Norwegian Airlines carried 1,587,550 travelers, while regional carrier Widerøe handled 328,385, totaling 1,915,935 passengers for the month.
Norwegian increased its capacity by 13% year-on-year, reaching 2,770 million Available Seat Kilometres (ASK), while Revenue Passenger Kilometres (RPK) rose 8% to 2,245 million. The airline’s load factor dropped to 81.1%, down 3.9 percentage points, partly due to the early Easter and added capacity. Widerøe also expanded, with ASK up 9% to 168 million and RPK at 119 million. Its load factor slightly improved to 70.7%.
Operational performance remained strong. Norwegian achieved a punctuality rate of 88.1% and a 99.4% regularity rate, while Widerøe posted 80.7% and 95.5%, respectively. Norwegian operated an average of 77 aircraft during the month and finalized the purchase of 10 previously leased Boeing 737-800s to boost fleet stability and flexibility.
CEO Geir Karlsen expressed satisfaction with the group’s momentum, highlighting preparations for the peak season. April marks the start of Norwegian’s expanded summer program, offering 350 routes and 129 destinations, including 19 new additions. Karlsen encouraged early bookings due to strong demand.
Popular international routes included London, Malaga, Alicante, Las Palmas, and Barcelona. Domestic and intra-Nordic flights were excluded from the rankings.
With robust traffic figures, high punctuality, and a larger fleet, Norwegian is positioned to meet growing travel demand across Europe.
