Netflix had finally announced that the first part of Lucifer season 5 will be released on August 21, 2020.

After so many issues hounding the series, fans will finally get to see the return of Tom Ellis, who plays the titular character of Lucifer aka the lord of hell.

The series have enjoyed a rollercoaster ride, the most recent of which was when contract negotiations for Ellis to reprise his role for a sixth installment with Warner Bros. Television had fallen apart.

All went well, however, with Ellis eventually confirmed to have signed on for season 6, although Netflix has yet to confirm a sixth installment.

Then came the news that Ellis will be replaced by Ian Somerhalder, who famously played the role of Damon Salvatore in The Vampire Diaries. The information was laughed off by Lucifer showrunner Ildy Modrovich.

Netflix had rescued Lucifer when Fox cancelled it after three seasons. It then announced that the fifth season will be the last only for Netflix to be reportedly interested in a sixth season.

The fans have been worried that the work stoppage due to the coronavirus pandemic would further pushed back the release date of Lucifer season 5.

Thus, the announcement of an August 21 playdate is like light at the end of a tunnel for the fans.

With Lucifer and Chloe having finally told each other of their true feelings, season 5 is definitely something to look forward to with showrunners promising a good time for the couple.

However, fans may not see the romance flourishing as the prophecy of Father Kinley hovers over the two.

According to Father Kinley, Lucifer's finding of his true love will unleash something evil. Lucifer had interpreted this to mean that he and Chloe cannot be together, thus he will be heading back to his hell home. Also, there is the return of Eve which might complicate things.

Fans will find out when the first part of Lucifer season 5 airs on August 21.
