Portland, Ore., Aug. 02, 2017 -- NWEA, the not-for-profit assessment solutions provider, and Wowzers, a comprehensive online math program for grades K-8, announced that they have forged a partnership to help teachers use MAP Growth assessment results to personalize math instruction for their students. Through this new partnership, teachers can automatically generate a unique learning path on Wowzers’ platform for each student based on their results from NWEA’s MAP Growth assessment.

According to 2015 NAEP scores, only 40 percent of fourth graders and one-third of eighth graders are proficient in math. However, providing students with engaging math instruction tailored to their specific needs can help them learn and retain new concepts and see higher growth in their math achievement.
Wowzers uses a student’s RIT score, from MAP Growth, to personalize its math program to meet students where they are and help them master the content they are ready to learn. By drawing on detailed MAP Growth data, educators can identify the specific math skills a student needs to focus on and make edits to their learning path in Wowzers to further customize instruction and activities.
“By linking MAP Growth with Wowzers, educators can use an assessment they already know and trust to place students where they need to be in math instruction to meet their growth goals,” said Reed Howard, co-founder and CEO of Wowzers. “Teachers can be confident that their students are engaging in content that is perfectly suited to their needs, regardless of whether they are at, below, or above grade level.”
A computer adaptive assessment, MAP Growth measures what students know and informs what they're ready to learn next by dynamically adjusting to each student's performance. It helps teachers pinpoint the specific needs of each student and informs instruction to support student growth and learning. Real-time, accessible reports provide educators with actionable and reliable data to track growth and help every student learn throughout the year.
Wowzers is a research-based math program that adapts to each learner to allow for an individualized learning experience for all students. Content is presented through a variety of animated, virtual tools, as well as a blended learning component with offline activities designed to help students develop problem-solving abilities, communication skills, and creativity. Aligned to the Common Core State Standards and individual state standards, Wowzers consistently tracks progress to help students learn key math concepts and understand how to apply them to real-world situations.
“Partnering with Wowzers is a furthering of our commitment to provide flexibility to educators by ensuring that MAP Growth can complement and be used with a wide range of curricula,” said Matt Chapman, CEO of NWEA. “We’re proud to be working with Wowzers to support teachers in their efforts to improve math achievement and help their students learn and grow.”
