While there have been rumors about an all-new, main series installment of “Mario Kart” in the works, what Nintendo has officially announced this year is the release of DLCs included in the Booster Course Pass for the “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.” And the first wave of additional tracks is going live this week with eight courses from six previous titles.
‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ Booster Course Pass content
The first wave of Booster Course Pass content is grouped into two “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” racing cups. The Golden Dash Cup features the Paris Promenade, Toad Circuit, Choco Mountain, and Coconut Mall courses. These tracks were previously featured in “Mario Kart Tour,” “Mario Kart 7,” “Mario Kart 64,” and “Mario Kart Wii,” respectively.
“Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” is also getting the Lucky Cat Cup through the Booster Course Pass. It includes the Tokyo Blur, Shroom Bridge, Sky Garden, and Ninja Hideaway courses that were previously seen on “Mario Kart Tour,” “Mario Kart DS,” and “Mario Kart Super Circuit.”
The Booster Course Pass should be a good way for players to experience the older courses, especially if they have not played games released before “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.” The entire DLC pass can be purchased for $24.99, but fans with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription ($49.99/year) will get all upcoming DLC courses at no additional cost.
‘Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’ Booster Course Pass release date and times
Per Nintendo’s previous announcement, the “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” DLC pass will be released in six waves with eight courses each. The game’s official website indicates Wave 1 content goes live on Friday, March 18, while the remaining seven waves of DLCs will be released through late 2023.
Eurogamer reports that, due to time zone differences, the first batch of “Mario Kart 8 Deluxe” DLCs will technically go live on Thursday, March 17. That includes the United Kingdom at 11 p.m. GMT and the United States at 4 p.m. PDT / 7 p.m. EDT. Players in other regions in Europe, however, are getting the eight additional courses on Friday, March 18, at 12 a.m. CEST.
