Manny Pacquiao’s camp has been making headlines for the past months after several hints that they are close to narrowing down the details of his next fight sometime this year. However, recent developments suggest that new names, such as Amir Khan and Conor McGregor, may have been added to the Filipino boxer’s list of potential opponents.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Conor McGregor sounds more likely than ever

McGregor had already floated the possibility of facing Pacquiao shortly before his UFC match with Donald Cerrone last Sunday. The Notorious came back to the octagon with a massive victory after defeating Donald Cerrone via knockout within the first 40 seconds of the fight in Las Vegas.

While McGregor is currently making headlines for his victorious UFC return, he is still officially a professional boxer. He has also shown enthusiasm in pursuing blockbuster matches against some of the biggest names in the sport, including Pacquiao. MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons responded positively when asked about Pacquiao’s potential match with the Irish fighter.

The boxing matchmaker explained that the uncertainty of the outcome in a Pacquiao-McGregor match might even be the reason it could be a more interesting fight despite relentless demands for rematch events against Floyd Mayweather Jr. “The Senator vs. Conor is more interesting because there are a lot of unknown things that play into the fight,” Gibbons told SBNation’s, Michael Woods. The American boxer has fought against the two and maintains an undefeated record.

Pacquiao vs. McGregor: What needs to be done to make it happen

Finalizing boxing matches can be very tedious, especially when the boxers are with different promoters. The process might require more effort if you throw Dana White's UFC in the mix, however, it is not entirely impossible.

When asked what needs to be done to make the Pacquiao-McGregor match happen, Gibbons implied that the ball is in UFC’s court. “It’s up to UFC, they call Al Haymon, and we are ready to go,” Gibbons added. PacMan signed with Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions in 2018.

It should be noted that Pacquiao's camp has been hyping up fans for some months now. However, they have yet to finalize any details despite previously mentioning that the eight-division champ eyes to return to the ring sometime in April.
